Choose Love, Southbank

News headlines have recently been dominated by stories about displaced refugees that have fled their homes in search of a better life. The Help Refugees charity help where the need is greatest – filling the gaps where big NGOs and governments don’t. 'unfinished animals', a production company that promotes art as a catalyst for change, equip worked with Help Refugees to promote their 'Choose Love' message.

For refugee week 2018, unfinished animals took the CHOOSE LOVE slogan and ethos onto the streets, engaging audiences with two bold + powerful murals by East London based artist Lakwena, and Iranian born artist and refugee Majid Adin. equip supported Lakwena’s creation - donating materials, building the canvas, projecting the artwork and providing crew for the management and installation.

Jodie Hamilton, MD of unfinished animals said “equip provided endless helpful advice and support from the start - they donated the timber to create the canvas the artwork was produced on, and a team to erect it onto the shipping containers. equip went one step further when we struggled with the small projector we were using for the artist to trace her work - it just wasn’t working - it wasn’t bright enough for the scale of what we were doing. It was panic stations! One call and they sent a huge projector and projectionist quickly enough for us to complete the work! Life savers!”

Dan Barley, Managing Director of equip said "We believe in giving back to the community. equip support various charities each year and felt that this one had a powerful, positive message at a time where we need to stop and reflect on humanity and 'Choose Love'. It was great to work with unfinished animals and was a very satisfying project to be a part of.”

You can further support by purchasing essential items from the 'Choose Love' store such as warm clothing, food, shelter and life jackets here, which will be distributed via the 80+ refugee projects Help Refugees support across the world. You can see Lakwena's mural until the end of August 2018 at the Southbank Centre, London
